Drywall Primer

- Recommended For: Use on drywall surfaces as a smooth and clean bonding finish prior to painting with a topcoat
- Choosing a Primer Color: White primer is recommended in most cases. Exceptions include: (1) when applying dark paint colors, where a grey primer is recommended; (2) "Poor hiding" paint colors (certain bright yellows, greens, reds and oranges), which require a tinted primer. Colors requiring a grey or tinted primer are indicated in our color library with a roller icon

| Description | Drywall Primer (for new construction) is used to provide a strong bonding layer that gives drywall surfaces a smooth and clean finish before painting with an ECOS Paints topcoat. Suitable for interior uses. Not suitable for use with plaster. |
| Preparation | Surfaces should be clean, dry, sound, and free from dirt, dust, grease, and loose or flaking material. Especially important is the removal of any dust created from sanding. Use a damp cloth/sponge to remove dust, a vacuum or dry cloth/sponge can be insufficient. Areas of joint compound, or mud, must be thoroughly cleaned as any remaining dust can cause flaking, or peeling. Soft, or crumbly, substrates must be pre-treated before priming. |
| Application and Clean Up | Under most conditions thinning is not necessary. Stir gently before and during use. Generally, only requires one coat. Normally dries to the touch in four hours. Allow twenty-four hours before sanding or painting. Can be applied using a high quality synthetic brush, rolled using a tightly woven, shed-resistant 3/8” to 1/2” roller cover, or sprayed using an airless sprayer with 0.015” to 0.017” tip at 1600 to 1800 psi. Avoid applying below 50°F (10°C). |
