What's the Best Eco-Home

Building or renovating an eco-friendly home does not restrict you from loving its appearance! We searched Houzz for photos of eco-friendly homes, and we were amazed at what we found – almost four thousand beautiful houses in every style imaginable. Today we're sharing some of the photos so you can see that green homes come in every color and style.

The Tiny House - Tiny houses have gotten a lot of attention recently. They're not for everyone, but their popularity shows that many people in America are rejecting the idea that bigger is better.

The LEED Contemporary Home - This LEED certified home proves that being a green home doesn’t mean that it can’t be modern and stunning!

The LEED Craftsman House - This LEED certified residence is a custom built home with all the charm of an older house. We love all the craftsman woodworking details!

An Off the Grid Pre-Fab House - This cabin in The Green Mountain National Forest of Vermont is off the grid and uses a 3kW Solar Photovoltaic System for it’s power.

An Off-the-Grid Mountain House - This off the grid home has three levels. The two lower ones are constructed of insulated concrete forms that keep the inside temp at fifty degrees all year long. The air from the lower levels is then circulated to the upstairs to cool it in the summer and heat it in the winter. It sounds like a very smart design!

An Earthship Farmhouse - This home’s roof is mostly eighteen inches of soil over steel reinforced concrete. The builders also used no VOC and formaldehyde-free materials in the construction of the home to keep toxins to a minimum.

A California Sustainable Home - This home gets most of its power from solar panels, but can use electricity from the grid if needed.

A Salvage House - The siding and awnings of this house are made from the roofs of minivans! The architect who built it scoured junkyards to find the silver metal. The wood shakes are also salvaged material from the furniture industry.
