Eco-smart Home

05/16/2020

The house is a winner of the Green Builder Home of the Year Awards and it’s no wonder why. Check out all of the amazing features as described by the builders:

The DJK Eco-Smart home by DJK Custom Homes is a one of a kind custom home situated on a beautiful two-acre home site in Naperville Illinois. This home has been designed to push the limits of home building and prove that sustainable, healthy, and efficient living is possible in an aesthetically appealing and practical home.
DJK Home’s Eco-smart home is the first home of its kind in the Naperville area. DJK Homes is currently pending LEED Platinum level certification on the project as well as NAHB Green Emerald level certification, National Wildlife Federation Backyard Wildlife Habitat program certification, EPA Indoor Air Plus certification, and ENERGY STAR 3.0 certification. This unique home by DJK Homes is healthy, efficiency, and sustainable. The Eco-smart home provides a healthy living environment for its occupants as well as zero energy bills.

DJK did not stop at net zero energy status. DJK’s Eco-Smart home is designed to be healthy, efficient, and sustainable. The five core focuses of this home are nature, resource efficiency, energy efficiency, water efficiency, and indoor air quality. This home is currently pending Leed Platinum level certification, the highest tier of certification. The home will also be NAHB green certified Emerald, level, EPA Indoor Air Plus Certified, Energy Star Certified, and be certified as a Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation.

At DJK we have recognized the problems associated with global warming and environmental disturbance and are doing our part to combat these issues. Some of the highlights of this home include a solar power array consisting of 40 roof mounted solar panels, drywall that cleans the air, no-mow grass, native landscaping design, reclaimed materials, and much more. DJK is proud to have greatly reduced the amount of indoor air pollutants in this home to provide the safest and healthiest living environment possible.

They certainly achieved their goals because the house is absolutely beautiful and even surpassed the standards they set for themselves for energy efficiency. In the planning stages of the project the builders hoped to reach a HERS score of eighteen. HERS stands for The Home Energy Rating System and it’s the industry standard by which a home’s energy efficiency is measured. The average American newly constructed home has a HERS index of one hundred and a score of zero means that the home uses no purchased energy whatsoever. The DJK eco-smart home had a HERS score of only ten upon completion!

The Eco-Smart Home is an exceptional feat of green building and we’re so pleased that they used ECOS Paints stains and varnishes throughout the interior of the home. To be a part of such a well thought out and expertly executed project that shows the future of what sustainable building can achieve is a very high honor.
