Today's DIY with Lullaby comes from Carissa at Creative Green Living and she tackled a project we had honestly never considered -- but we absolutely love! She took our super-durable Lullaby Paints chalkboard paints to a new level by painting the side of her refrigerator. Want to try this project, too? Here's how to make a DIY chalkboard painted refrigerator:

Step 1: Prep the surface.

Clean the surface of the refrigerator with a sponge and warm water and allow it to dry completely. Tape-off the area you'll be painting and protect your floor from any spatters or spills by putting down newspaper, resin paper, or an old blanket.

Step 2: Prime.

Since you're painting an impermeable surface, you'll need to prime. Roll on Lullaby Paints non-toxic**primer paint and allow to dry completely.

**Conforms to ASTMD-4236, specifically concerning oral toxicity, skin irritation and respiratory effects.

Step 3: Apply chalkboard paint.

Squeeze or shake the paint pouch to mix the contents well and dispense into the roller tray. Apply the first coat using vertical strokes and allow to dry at least 6 hours. Carissa shares this great tip: "While the paint is drying on the fridge, store your whole paint tray and roller in a zip top plastic bag and pop it in the fridge. This will keep the paint from drying out while you wait for the fridge to dry and save you the extra step of cleaning everything in between coats." Apply the second coat using horizontal strokes and allow to dry overnight. In the morning decide if you'd like a third coat or not (it will depend on how thickly you've applied the previous coats). If you opt for a third, revert back to vertical strokes and wait another 6-12 hours for it to dry. (If it's humid or warm, you may need to wait even longer.)

Step 4: Prime the chalkboard.

Once the paint is completely dry and cured. You can test by pressing the tip of your fingernail into a discreet spot in the paint - if you are able to dent the surface, the paint hasn't fully dried yet. Once dry, prime the surface by rubbing the side of a piece of chalk all over the surface of the chalkboard. Wipe the chalk off using a damp cloth.

Step 5: Enjoy!
