Tips for Choosing the Best Feng Shui Paint Colors
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines feng shui as, “a Chinese system for positioning a building and the objects within a building in a way that is thought to agree with spiritual forces and to bring health and happiness.” In addition to the placement of things, feng shui has color recommendations in order to create harmony and balance in your home. Beyond basic color psychology, each hue is assigned to specific areas of the home and each color is an expression of one of the 5 feng shui elements: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood. What colors should you use and where should you use them? Check out these easy tips for choosing the best feng shui paint colors.
The first step to understanding what colors should go where in your home is to align your floor plan with the "bagua," or energy map. Line up the bottom of the map with the wall that contains the main entrance. (Map courtesy of Easy Feng Shui.)
Once you've figured out which rooms align with each section of the bagua, you'll see color recommendations directly on the map. Also, you can use this handy infographic from Soothing Walls to help you figure out colors and decor:
When you're choosing each hue, be sure to choose something you love! Your house isn't going to have good energy if every time you walk into your bedroom you think about how much you dislike the color.
